Technology companies and departments especially, but also university colleges, research centres and similar establishments offered Girls’ Day events.

Companies were able to enter their events on the Girls´ Day homepage. The girls had the opportunity to find out about technical careers in advance, and enrol for the activities. The purpose of the Girls’ Day was to motivate girls to consider more seriously training or study and an eventual career in natural science or technological fields. The intention was that, through this career orientation project, the schoolgirls should recognise that they were equipped to face the challenges presented by a technical career. They were encouraged by contact with women who already work in technical positions and so provide them with role models. Women in management positions and self-employed women also provided schoolgirls with an insight into their working day. The experience of past years showed that activities designed for girls in schools and workplaces are very successful. But companies, too, benefit from Girls' Day: they can satisfy themselves about the interests and talents of the girls from their own perspective. For companies, Girls' Day is a day for ensuring new staff on an ongoing basis. Through the strong orientation of technology products to different target groups, the growing shortage of skilled labour, and the attractive economic situation, there is growing interest in female engineers. In addition, the technology and creativity competition “Vision 2007 – invent your future” was held this year for the first time. Girls had until 27 April 2007 to submit their answer to the questions, “How do you see life in 20 years?” and “What technological innovations will there be?” The creativity of the girls as shown in the choice of formats, for example, knew no bounds. The prizegiving was held in Berlin on 13 June 2007. Girls' Day is promoted by a strong alliance for positive action, consisting of both the sponsoring government ministers, the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations (BDA), the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the German Chamber of Industry and Trade (DIHK), the German Central Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH), the German Federation of Trade Unions (DGB), the D21 initiative and the German Labour Agency (BA), and took place within the framework of the “SACHEN MACHEN” (let’s make things!) initiative.
