There's much more to come

In recent years, Deutsche Mechatronics GmbH has developed into one of the biggest employers in the region. With a strategically favourable location, the modern manufacturing and assembly halls are well integrated into the landscape.

“We profit from the major trend which has now gripped all major industries – outsourcing”, comments Karlheinz Sossenheimer, managing partner of Deutsche Mechatronics GmbH.

For some years now, there has been a move amongst machine building companies towards outsourcing modules or entire structural components.

“This is where we come in”, says Sossenheimer. Deutsche Mechatronics develops modules for machine builders, and mostly delivers complete devices and systems directly to the assembly line of the market leaders in machine and tool building. “Development and production”, says Udo Adriany, who is responsible for marketing at Deutsche Mechatronics, “belong together in our philosophy." Without production expertise, the production development time would be increased unnecessarily. Therefore, with both production development and the subsequent series production, we are already deeply integrated into the value-added chain of our customers.

“We are the first and only company in Germany to have this combination of design, development and production”, maintains Sossenheimer. Over the years, the company has systematically built up its expertise in mechatronics – the combination of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and software. Today, the core competences include infrared and UV drying technology, electromechanics and process air technology. “Industrial image processing”, says Sossenheimer, “will develop as the next big focal point”.

The Mechatronics Group, including its partner company Prontor GmbH in Calmbach, Switzerland, had sales of over 130 million euros in 2006, and this year it should be 150 million euros. Mechatonics' partners include many leading names in German industry, from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG to Trumpf, Siemens, Philips, MTU and ABB.

In order to be able to keep up with these partners, Mechatronics has invested almost 8% of its sales revenues in research and development, and collaborates on research with Aachen university (RWTH). Of the Group’s 800 employees, 120 are engineers. “We always need to be a step ahead of our clients - this is the only way we will be taken seriously”, says Sossenheimer. And take them seriously you will!

The company, a subsidiary of the Munich associated company VTC Industrieholding GmbH, which constantly seeks further attractive investment options in the German-speaking region in order to make the Mechatronics Group even more successful, is “quite profitable”, as Sossenheimer modestly puts it.

“In Mechernich and its environs”, explains Richard Zinken, Manager of Parts Assembly at Deutsche Mechatronics, as we pass through the production area, “there are good recreational facilities, moderate land prices and ideal career opportunities, for example with our own company.”
